School Bus Program

The School Bus Program assists families in rural and regional Victoria by transporting students to school where they do not have access to public transport.

The Student Transport Unit of the Department of Education sets the School Bus Program (SBP) Policy and provides general transport advice to schools.

Categories of eligibility determine whether a student can access the service at no cost. Students wishing to access a seat on a bus must complete an application form and parents/guardians must agree to the conditions of travel. A new form is required each school year.

To be eligible for a seat on a bus at no cost a student must:

  • Attend their closest government or non-government school

  • Reside 4.8km or more from the school (primary residence)

Ineligible travellers:
Government and non-government students who reside 4.8km or more from school but who are not attending their closest appropriate school may be able to access the bus at no cost if seats are available. They may have to relinquish their seat if the bus is full, with priority given to eligible passengers as per the SBP Policy.

It is important that parents ensure their children are safely delivered to and from the bus stops. Whilst on the bus students must behave appropriately and stay seated with a seat belt on until the bus has stopped completely. No food or drink is allowed on the bus.

Parents are asked to keep the school up to date with any bus changes. We know there are a number of after school activities that affect bus travel. We ask that you call or email the school office no later than 2:30pm on the day of travel for any last minute changes.
